Oil pressure stuck at 60psi
I recently bought an 07 flhx. It had a problem with the fuel gauge being stuck on E except for when i fill it up its ok for the first 10 miles or so. I figured its just the sending unit but now when i crank it up the oil pressure goes straight to 60 an does not go down. Not even at idle. Im just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Im about to ride to daytona in a few days and dont want to end up on the side of the road. Im hoping its just an electrical issue.

sounds like a bad sending unit. does it go that high with the key in the on position/engine off? If so it is definitely the sending unit. the absolute correct way of checking this is to remove the sending unit and connect an oil pressure gauge, and check the pressure. An easier way, and most likely a satisfactory way would be to just replace the sending unit. That most likely will fix your problem. If it doesn't, two things happen. One you wasted money for a sending unit you don't need, and two: most likely you have a stuck oil pressure relief valve. My money is on the bad sending unit

Well since you said you just bought the bike & oil pressure is stuck at 60psi @ idle here are some things i rec you chk out.
1) Short to grnd of of the wire from oil pressure sending unit to oil pressure gauge.
2) Defective oil pressure sending unit itself.
3 ) Defective oil pressure gauge itself.
4) Check for a stuck oil pressure relief valve spring in the oil pump.
To verify #4 you could use an inexpensive mechanical oil pressure temporarily hooked up to the motors oil pressure port to verify if the the relief valve spring is in fact stuck & or if the oil pressure relief valve itself is stuck.
Happy Motoring!

Im surprised to see soo many replies! Thanks for the input guys. Im off of work tomorrow so ill hopefully have time to give some of that a try. The oil pressure was normal when i first bought it and with the fuel gauge acting up ill prob get into the farring first and see if theres a bad ground or connection. If not ill check the sending unit and go from there. Ill keep you updated.

To check the gage with the ignition switch on, take the wire off the sending unit. The gage should read zero. Short that wire to ground. The gage should now read full scale. The gage on the dash and the wiring to it are good if this checks out. Then assume the sending unit failed. If this check doesn't go as explained, the gage or associated wiring are to be suspected.
