Default Novice. Quick connect gas leak. HELP!

I have a 2008 ROAD KING. The gas is leaking at the fitting under tank. I emptied gas tank for the most part. I disconnected the line at the quick connect. I read about orings. I see them but I cant get them out. I even tried a dental pick. Can I unscrew the fitting that screws into the tank and just go get another? Or is there going to be some GOTCHA if I try to do that? Very frustrating. I just got the bike it only has 9000 miles on it. Thanks in advance

First, are you sure that you got it re-assembled correctly? It's been known to happen.

The fitting that screws into the tank actually has a hose connected that goes to the pump. Would require the top tank access panel removed and the pump assembly removed to disconnect the hose. Try removing the tank from the bike and empty out what is left of the fuel then put it on a bench upside down so you can work on it.

I believe you can get them at Lowe's or Home Cheapo. A good hardware store, maybe. A little Vaseline on assembly will help it slide right on in. Oh, baby.

I did it the "girlie" way. I drained my tank with a siphon pump (El cheapo from Harbor Freight) so it wouldn't drip. Then I used a mirror and pick to get the o-rings out. The first one was the learning curve and the second was much easier. Vaseline on the new ones to get the new ones back in. The whole thing took me about 3 hours and my hubby was laughing at me most of the time. HTH.
