Air Cleaner Filter Question
I pulled the A/C cover off the '04 RKC the other day just to see what brand I have. After getting the cover off I had to remove three allen head screws to remove the filter element (I'll get to why I mention this in a minute). The filter element says for Harley Davidson Twin Cam Use Only stamped on the body of the filter. Now I know this is not a stock set-up (at least I think I do), there is no plastic backing just a chrome bracket that mount the filter element to the air inlet and then the stock cover. To be honest I expected to find a K&N filter element behind the cover, not a Harley-Davidson part since it isn't a stock A/C set-up. The filter element doesn't say Screaming Eagle on it, or K&N, or for that matter any part number at all. What the hell have I got here and can I replace it with a K&N with the same three screw mount?

RE: Air Cleaner Filter Question
I have the SE A/C Kit on my 07’ Ultra and keep reading I should replace the SE filter with a K&N HD-0800; however, I am confused why I should change filters. Reading several other posts, I came across the following information:
HD stock - 171CFM
Stage 1 Big Sucker - 200CFM
Stage 2 Big Sucker - 250CFM
Kuryakyn Twin Velocity - 270CFM
E-3014 = 248 CFM RK-3009 kit
E-3037 = 301 CFM RK-3910 kit
HD-0800 = 231 CFM SE replacement
Doherty Powerpacc - 287CFM
SE Air Cleaner - 287 CFM
Zippers - 321 CFM
Woods Carbs - 4 models 235CFM upto 340CFM
BC Overflow - 800+CFM
[/align]
Now, I look at these numbers and I see less air flow with the HD-0800 then the SE filter. Should I switch just to have a K&N filter that I can oil? Is the switch due to integrity issues (falling apart)of the SE filters from previousyears? Are these air flow numbers skewed? I thought of maybe going with the AN BS; however, that has even less air flow.
Someone please help me understand!

RE: Air Cleaner Filter Question
I have the SE a/c on my bike. Had no complaints about it. I then switched to the K & N for two reasons. 1. I can just reoil it, and never have to buy another filter. 2. I want to run with an open element, and with the K & N being an oil type element, it will resist the risk of water entering my throttle body (if I get caught in a down pour). If I had it to do over again, I would have gone with a AN BS, mainly because I could have bought one with the chrome back plate for a couple bucks more. Now, to add one, it will cost me $40 (PN 29510-05) . I Could have got a ANBS for one price, with a reusable filter (not K & N), and a chrome backplate. [:@]
