Default Bout to buy pre-owned road king....

Hey guys... I currently have an 01 FXDWG that I am looking to get rid of in order to step up to a Road King. Ill be looking for something a few years older and am curious if theres any known issues in certain years that i should stay away from. I am wanting to stay 2007 or newer to get the bigger motor and tranny.. but due to my budget, may have to go older. Thanks for any insight

Just went through this.....same frame up till 08 and changed again in 09. 07 was the first year of the 6 speed and 96". 2002 is the last year of the good bearings and better swing arm. In the end I just bought the cleanest, lowest mile Road King I could afford. I ended up buying an 04 with 19,000 miles pretty much stock and well taken care of. Good luck in your search!

I would be looking for an '09. 96" motor, better gearing in the 6 speed than 07 and 08, and no cat to roast your leg.

Having said that, I love my '04 with the 88" and 5 speed. The only years I would avoid is '07 and '08 as they were transition years and there were bugs being worked out.

Check out the classified section here, there are a couple nice kings on there.

I just purchased this 2007 Custom for $4500.

Yes I stole it, but there are deals out there that will fit your budget.

To be honest, my 02 RKC with a stage one was faster than this one.

I'm not being defensive since I just bought my 07, but what bugs should I be concerned about.

Mainly the gearing for 6th and I believe the compensator. Keep in mind this is information I have heard on this forum and not first hand, but I have heard those years can be problematic.
