Default Thoughts on V&H Power duals with stock mufflers

Been a while since I posted,..... but have I am asking for anyone who might have experience with my planned setup:

Purchased the following (Still in boxes);

V&H FP3 tuner (have yet to install but looks pretty high tech !)
V&H Power duals header pipe
Screamin Eagle Extreme billet Ventilator Air breather kit

But would like to keep things quiet so HD tech suggested keeping the stock mufflers wit the new header pipe. Primary reason for the upgrades is to get the damn heat off my right leg from the CAT, and also stop the ugly detonation problems after running the bike for a couple hours in the summer heat ! I am happy to get the performance improvements but I don't want a loud exhaust plus keeping the stock mufflers keeps the price down, although I am thinking that if this is a very bad idea, I might have to throw more cash at HD for the Screamin Eagle Street Canons.

Anyone running a header pipe with stock mufflers ? I had been told by local HD dealer that one of their former HD reps ran this setup and it sounded ok(Not loud), but with some improvement in sound and performance as he also wanted the advantage of the header pipe without the increased loudness, but I have not able to speak with this individual.

Thoughts ?

Scott

Did you do this setup? I'm considering the same thing except with debaffled stock mufflers. Curious what it would be like.

On a stock engine I personally would send the V+H header back and just decat your stock head pipe.

I ran that setup on my 12 limited and performed much better, took the heat away and did have some increase in noise. Later installed Monster Rounds and ended up putting baffles in to tone it down a bit.

I originally tried decatting my stock headpipe and the O2 sensors were too close getting crosstalk. .

I love my Power Duals. Heat GONE. Wicked snarl is a bonus. A great part of my performance upgrade.
