Default K&N Air Filter Question

In American Bagger, I saw the suggestion/R&D/article about upgrading the stock filter and assembly to the K&N. If I did this, do I need to remap? My set up is completely stock. I do not plan to change the pipes. Thanks!

Changing out the stock element will do little more than give you a filter you can reuse. No remap needed with this useless upgrade (as far as power increase goes) anyway.

I would think you need to re-map, if you use the K & N RK-3909 series air filter kit, see it here...(http://www.knfilters.com/harley_custom.htm). They also have a stock K & N replacement filter which you would not have to re-map.

I actually did exactly what you are considering. The K&N flowed so much more air than the stock filter that my pipes ran so hot that I could smell them! I immediately went back to the stock filter until my FuelPak arrived. In talking to the folks at Vance & Hines (maker of the FuelPak), they indicated that the K&N filter element flowed almost as much air as the Stage 1 Air Intake.
