Default Nail in tire, what should I do?

I picked up a nail in the front tire of my roadking today, bike only has 1400 miles on it. I came home and pulled it out and its not leaking so it obvioulsy did not get the tube, The nail was maybe 3/8 of an inch long, my question is would you guys leave the tire alone now or not? Someone told me I will get sand in the tire and it will ruin the tube and will go flat, I know I picked up a nail in the rear tire of one of my other bikes once and I replaced the tube and left the tire and it was just fine. Whats your opinion?

I would break the tire down and inspect that tube real good. Go with an inside patch/boot in the tire, and if the old tube leaks, go with a new one. I would also keep it in the back of my mind, to not try for any tire mileage records outta one that has been patched. Safety before cost on cycle tires............They're all that's tween you an the road.

A small punture like the one you have, should be safe, after the repair. Just keep an eye on it.

Take the tire to the dealer or your favorite mechanic and have them take the tire off and put a patch on it. If it's not leaking....the tube is ok. Get it all inspected....and roll on. The patch and glue will seal the hole and your tire will be good to go.

If you are not having any luck feeling good about repairing it....buy a new tire and tube and strap and you will have the confidence of a new rubber......

Good luck

It sucks it only has 1400 miles on it but you only have two tires touching the road. I say why take a huge risk like that esp. with the front - replace the tube and the tire and feel safe

I tried that with my wife, she said no way. Was worth a shot. I told her that a new street glide would have a new front tire, she said it better have a seat big enough to sleep on to. I guess that meant no. Anyway, I took the tire to a shop today, the nail never even made it through the tire, only went in about 1/16 inch or less, I replaced the tube anyway and he put it together, He said if it would have come all the way through the tire he would insist on a new tire because he wont patch or plug motorcycle tires but he said he would have no problem with it this way even on his own bike. I will keep a close eye on it.
