Yeah I paid a premium for my RGU in September of last year.

 

I guess we all reach a limit. My wife got tired of me staring at the Ultra Limited in the then new 2015 Harley catalog and gulking at the new Indian Road Master on their Web site. She pulled me into the car with the intention of coming home with one of those bikes.

But both bikes were tickling $30,000 and I just couldn't get my head around spending that kind of money on any motorcycle. Strangely I was the one to talk her out of spending that kind of money.

I have since paid cash for several used bikes at a 3rd of the price of a new Ultra Limited and had a blast riding them. I found an Evo for next to nothing and that was one of my most enjoyable rides. Sold it, but now I have an 07 RK Custom sitting next to a Concours.

However, new bikes aren't out of the picture. I'm still finding myself wandering over to test ride Rushmore Road Glides. I'm hoping for smoking good deal on a 2016 when the 2017s come out.

The deals are happening now, the dealers need to move the 2016's, don't listen to anything different that they tell ya. Just grabbed a '16 Road Glide Special for a very nice price yesterday, the closer we get to August, the better the deal you can make. Pit the dealers against each other, I did just that and scored below msrp out the door.

 

Joe: You are dead nuts right....and I'm glad to read that you talked yourself out of the CVO.....because that too would have become boring after about a year.

Always amazes me witnessing how many people will try to talk some INTO leaping from a tall building, and how few will attempt to talk the potential jumper OFF the ledge. Because I have my own ranch to run, I don't care what the next guy does. I will say this though.....it took me 4 full years to get my Road Glide where I want it, but it's there now, and I know as a matter of fact that a new bike would put me right back to square one. And I say "NO THANK YOU" to that! I dig my bike right where it is now after four years, AND....it's all mine. No institution has a lien on it, and I like that as much as I like the bike itself.

Keep that Street Glide, brother. Hopefully at some point down the road, you'll have it performing as good or better than any stock CVO (which isn't hard to do), and you'll be able to claim it as wholly your own as well.

 

I would wait to see what the '17s are like as it could be a game changer. At least by that time deals will be much better on the '16s.

The great thing about Harley's is that you can upgrade and modify them easily, and once your bike is paid off you have a lot more coin to make it yours. On the other hand if you're bored with your current ride, maybe a change is in order for something new.

Don't get in a big rush to spend $25-30K!

 

I get the urge for a new bike but then I go look at the prices of the new ones and the urge passes.
