How far do you wear down your tires?

That's what I was thinking about guys who go past the wear bars. On my Vulcan 750, I got 14k on my rear tire. So I wasn't checking the tread on my Ultra. At 6200 miles, in the rain, the bike got all squirrelly when braking. I was surprised to see I was past the wear bars. So I replace them before that, now.

Actually, I discovered this while on a ride up through Kentucky, about 400 miles from home. Yeah, I had rain on that trip, just don't do canyon carving in the rain and ride ahead of myself so I don't get into panic stop situations.

For a 49 state state tire with wet weather to deal with I'd be looking at replacing it soon, out here in sunshine land run that bitch

I won't start the season near the wear bars, but if it is late summer or fall, I'll run it until the cold weather hits and then change before the next season. How OLD are your tires, especially the front? For people who don't ride a lot, a front tire is likely to AGE out before it wears out. 6 years on a tire, regardless of tread depth, is stretching it if you ride the highways. In suburbia maxed out at about 40 mph, not so much of a problem.

I generally change my tires at 3/32".
Why did your grandfather call you "son" ? JK.
That is very cautious. Changing out the wheels too when all you need is new rubber !
