Well, the bike left stranded but luckily only couple hundred miles from home and was able to have someone grab a trailer and save me.

Now she is home. Problem I am having is I turn the ignition on hit the run switch, push the start button and the starter just makes one bang/thunk sound and the lights go out on the dash and the headlights, all lights for that matter are gone. Then the lighting relay is just a buzzing. Turn the ignition off and it stops. Then when I turn the ignition back on it sometimes will still be buzzing and the idiot lights are real dull, no headlight or gauges. I did replace the lighting relay and it will still do it.

I am just not sure if I have a bad starter or if my ignition switch has gone bad or ?

2008 FLHX 71,000 miles, powervision, S&S head pipe, V&H mufflers.

Mind you it ran great for 3 days without a hiccup on what would of been a
1400 mile trip but was paused at 1100 miles.

Thanks for any help.

Sounds like your battery is flat/dead.

Can you get a local garage to do a load test?

as above.

you can pull the battery charge it ( charger not a "tender") and load test at autozone for free.

while you have it out check your cables for rot...follow to the other end and crack and retighten the bolts.

crack and retighten the starter mounting bolts

if you are looking for a battery, myself and wscott have posted recently on batteries and prices.

i have my new yuasa gyz32HL on the charger now preparing to put into the bike.

if your battery is not the fault, check the charging system is working- those checks are in the service manual and have been posted on the forums, tech board, electrical

The battery is holding at 12.8 volts. I will see if I can get it load tested.

Anyone else.

The odd thing is to that I have to "fiddle"(find the right spot) with the ignition switch to get it to occasionally turn on to get the dash to light up

Thanks.

I just got everything to power up. Had volt meter on the battery showing 12 volts. Hit the start button and dropped to under 5 volts with the same thunk sound as described above.

it almost sounds like you engine is locked up.
pull the plugs, put it in gear and see if you can roll it.

12 volts not doing anything...5 volts trying to use it.

either bad battery or cable/connections.

Checked the ground at both ends both good as is the positive cable.

Well it ended up being the battery.
I should just think simple first. But when you end a road trip the mind races to worst case scenario, well at least mine does.
There was no warning it just went which is why I was thinking it was a bigger problem.

Thank all of you gentlemen for the help, much appreciated.
