'xactly... It's a little different than "just" draining your battery from leaving the lights on a little too long.

On a side note, a battery that has been damaged thusly can usually be reconditioned with a "conditioning charger thingamajig," or a "smart" charger that has this feature.

As soon as bike starts, charging system is making power. Higher RPMs more power. At idle you may not have enough. Raising rpms will help.



Battery is for staryin bike. It may supplement charging system at idle.

Those of us who are old enough, remember the trick of pulling the battery cable off a running car to check the alternator output can keep it running. That's not a good idea for new cars/bikes that depend on computers/electronics to run. The alternator/regulator put out DC current but not steady - it's lots of little pulses as each magnet goes by a coil. The battery steadies these pulsations and protects the electronics. When the charging system is running full force to charge a dead battery, those pulses get out into the bike's electrical system and could cause problems.
