75/90 or 75/140 in '14 RK Tranny?

***Never mind, I just looked and the shock proof is 75/90...still pours like sludge though.***
Hard to believe 140 is too heavy when people have had such good luck redline shock proof in the tranny. The red line flows like molasses.
Maybe they had seal problems tough long term...?

Hey all,
Getting ready to change fluids in my '14 RK.
Not to bait another oil debate here, but I was curious of everyone's opinion regarding using 75/90 vs 75/140 weight synthetic gear oil in a '14 RK.
I do my own maintenance if possible, however I had the dealer do the initial 1,000 mile service and they installed 75/140 syn gear oil in the tranny.
I live in eastern PA...summers get hot/humid. Is 75/140 a better alternative than 75/90?? I plan on a 10K tranny gear oil change interval going forward.
Thanks all..

You can see by the graph 75-90 puts your in the favorable 50w range.

To answer your question: No, they both have one job to do and they both will do it. So you can get Mobile 1 75w/90 for around $9.99 a bottle or Mobile 1 75W/140 for around $19.99 a bottle... I've used both and couldn't tell a difference. So since I change mine at least once a year, I go with the 75w/90.

Transmission oil
Here is what I use in my 012' Ultra. =
Heavy Duty Platinum Full Synthetic 6 speed Transmission Lube
Designed by Spectro in response to complaints from Harley owners about the great but noisy new 6-speed transmission, this full synthetic provides ultimate lubrication protection. Formulated to significantly reduce gear noise and provide easier, smoother shifting, this SAE 75w140 formulation eases shifting even when cold. High loads and extreme heat do not affect the oil, so it performs well when pushed hard and long. A.P.I. GL-5 rated

There is no question that a 140 weight gear lube is make for a quieter transmission but I have always felt it was too thick for these lightweight Harley transmissions. Lighter viscosity will lube better in a 6 speed tranny.
Again, it is all about personal preference. Anything will work ok for the first 24 months, or until the warranty is over. After that you need a good quality lube that will provide years of service. I think some of the dealers make bad recommendations to their new bike customers by recommending questionable products.
Just use what you feel comfortable with. There is no "best or worst". Some are better suited than others though. Read your manual.
