Dealers hold a higher limit when it comes to brakes and tires, especially if they are going to resell the bike. Some will say it's just so they can make a buck, but IMPE they are low, you're in there so just change them.

Just FYI.... these were mine at 15k...

Cost me a new rotor too. ('15 Limited Low)

My daily commute is constant stop & go, lane splitting, etc... on the rear brake a lot.

Looking to change my rear ones tomorrow. If they looked like that, there is no way.

I just measured a brand new set at 4/32. So there ain't a lot to begin with as others have said.

Hold onto them anyway. May come in handy some time with no shop in sight.

Get yourself a flashlight and an inspection mirror. I can inspect all three sets of pads in less than 60 seconds on my Dyna or Touring bike.

No argument there. I just never thought they would go in 15k, so I never checked. Also just changed the fronts yesterday. Because of the linked braking system the left side was pretty thin too.

Here's a picture from another thread showing a worn out pad and a new one.

My local HD stealer recently told me the same thing after my latest service. I decided to do my own and ordered the pads without questioning what they said, got the pads off and saw my pads had at least 50% life left. They told me that they needed to be done asap and tried to book me in right then+there. They were also supposed to check my brake fluid when they had it and when I pulled my front master cylinder cap off to replace it (it had some paint peeling off) the rubber gasket was mangled and down inside submerged underneath all the brake fluid, essentially doing nothing. When I pulled it out, the master cylinder was only about 1/3 full of fluid. What exactly are we paying for with these expensive services when they lie to us about what's actually done and what needs to be done? Can any of the dealers be trusted? Makes me feel like they didn't actually do anything properly, even though they were supposed to check/adjust almost everything possible on the bike.
