Does anyone know how many amps a battery tender puts out?

If I am not mistaken it depends on the tender you buy. It should show how many for each make and model.

Do you already have one? If so what make and model?

Battery Tender Jr. is 0.75 amps max output, the Battery Tender Plus is 1.25 amps max output.

Yup, depends. I have one with 3 amps. The higher the amps, the less time to charge.

Think of the "tender" as a device to "tend" a fully charged battery- a balance against the draw of the alarm, radio etc. and also against time and temps.

a "charger" will charge a decharged battery.

for most motorcycle batteries 5 or 6 amps is about right- a higher charge rate can damage the battery through heat and/or boiling out the electrolyte

so a charger chargers, a tender tends.

when I get my new battery in a few weeks I'll charge it at 5 amps for about 12 hours before putting it in the bike.

once it is in regular use, I'll plug it into a tender.

should the battery discharge, I use a charger

find the amp hour spec ( say 32 ) divide by charge rate ( 2) = 16 for this example

I usually do this out of the bike- on the floor inside a metal baking pan- rare but I have seen new battery cases split or leak when first activated...ventilated area is important too....hydrogen gas

check with a meter that your charger puts out no more than 15 volts DC ( 14.8 is perfect), if it does, find another.
