Default windshield woes and poor rain visibility.

Hey guys, couldn't find anything in search or on google (if it's not on google, does it exist?) about windshield issues in the rain. I took a trip to tellico this past weekend and got caught in a **** rain for 3 hours from Asheville through the skyway, etc.

The problem i'm having -stock windshield 2010 flhtk- is the rain rolling up the windshield and rolling back down the inside of the windshield. i'm not tall enough to see over the shield, i have to look through it and my visibility was compromised. what are you guys doing to combat this?

i could be in the market for a new windshield if anyone can recommend a shorter one that kicks wind up as far as the stock one.

Get a windshield with a recurve top section. Clearview, or similar. Make sure it's the right height, you want to be looking just over the top line. The recurve helps keep the raindrops from rolling over the top edge, and keeps your head in a pocket of quiet air.

thanks for the suggestion, i'm adding it to the list of parts. i have a short 4" windshield that curves upwards like you're saying that came from the previous owner, but the wind hits me right in the glasses. so that's not very useful. i'll look into the clearview shields.

Four inches is pretty useless, but you need to go buy your height. I know Clearview was mentioned. I like LRS because they are pretty expensive and work well. New windshield with a recurve costs less than $100 in a lot of cases. Especially now with their memorial day saie.

Check out long ride shields (lrs) for short. They also have a recurve shield. I think you get a 10% discount for being the this site.

LRS is having a 60% off sale for the holiday weekend that has already started. I had 10" flip on my last bike and loved it so I ordered a Ultra last week and should be delivered sometime this week. They have measuring instruction on the site.

It helps to wax the windshield, some peeps use Rainex but make sure it's the one for plastic not glass.

I use Moto Mask, available at many metric bike dealers. Wingers use it a lot. I learned about it from a Bike Cop. Tip: Do the inside of the windshield, too. Safe for polycarbonate, too.

Cut the windshield down so you are looking over it or get a new one that allows you to look over. There are instructions for cutting in the DIY section of this forum. Some of the windshield companies have instructions on how to select a windshield that is the right height for you.

Best way I know is to place an object on the ground 35 feet in front of your front wheel. Sit on the bike and look through the shield. Make a mark on the shield at the point where the object is. Cut the shield to that point or buy a shield that is that height. This allows you to look over and still have full protection.

I know of no way to have a windshield that you look through that will allow you to have good vision in the rain. That's why there are windshield wipers on cars.

As you've probably figured out, your current windshield is too tall for you. But even when I was running a correct size stock shield I was getting some buffeting . So,
I'm going to add my recommendation for a Long Ride Shield with the recurve at the top. It has nearly completely eliminated buffeting and the few times I've got caught in the rain with it visibility was not that much of an issue.
