I'm following this thread. My shaft looks similar to yours, but not that bad. I have been using the "Better Lever" for years now. It works, but eventually I'll have to dig in and replace the shaft.

250 is a lot for lever. he needs to keep up on the pre maintenance.
when he first got the bike, we took a small file and made the grooves workable again for 5000 miles. did the same again and cut the inside of lever so it would close more. lasted about 5000 miles. payed someone to do what we are doing now and they only did what we did twice. their work lasted 500 miles.

hes been through 3 levers in five years.

i do get to hang with dippy and work on his bike again.

management has made the decision to move on without changing out bearings. bearing seem good, bearings are not sticking or crunchy when spinning by hand.
couple of new seals and gaskets, bike will be running again.

have to get this shifter pawl adjusting screw out also. failed first attempt.

back at it, had a local guy rebuild the tranny cluster. dippy said no on a rebuild for the fifth/drive pulley.
we got transmission back together. was able to go through all 5 gears. dippy twisted off tranny cover bolt so, we are waiting on that.
painted the home made socket, will have pics soon. pretty cool having tranny back together.
