Default My Ohlins experience

I recently purchased and installed a set of #3-3 Ohlins on my Ultra and the difference is all in the ride. Now it did not come as easily as I had hoped, but by no means was it hard to do. After talking to Howard and following his advice we came to the conclusion that I needed a heavier spring set. Howard sent me another set of springs quickly and I changed them out with no problem. Went back to the first steps of install, setting sag, using the zip tie, road testing, etc., and after almost 500 miles on the shocks about all I need to do is dial them in a little more and ride. I found Howard to be a wealth of knowledge and if you truly listen to the man he will help you get your shocks set properly. Now I know just how lacking the front suspension is and that is on my to do list.

i really do believe that with ohlins, they're so customizable, half the ppl who don't like them just don't have them dialed in. Its so easy to miss the mark and just feel blah about them. But once you do actually get them dialed. Wow what a difference.

While I realize this is originally a 4 year old thread...I agree.
On my 05 with Howard's Ohlins out back and progressive mono tubes up front, I set the sag and rode on.
On my 19 limited, it was much, much more finicky about sag settings. I swapped the shocks over and put Axeo cartridges up front.
It was a bucking bronco at first. Once I dialed in the rears...the front smoothed itself out. For me, I run a hair more sag then recommended and turn up the compression a few clicks.
I have one sag setting for solo, then crank them up 4 turns for 2 up with my wife. It did take some time to figure out the right setting for us... but once you get there, the light bulb goes on big time.

I went with the Legend Axeo cartridges on my 2007 Ultra. Really like them. Made a world of difference over stock. I am looking for bumps to ride over now. If I decide to upgrade shocks I will go with Legend REVO shocks.

I got very very lucky I bought a set of ohlins # 3~3 from Howard, and after I got them installed properly They were set just exactly right for me. I have not touched them there after, except to spray the dust and road grime off of them, and they ride just as smooth as silk.

Just thinking wouldn't it be nice if a guy could try all the different shocks back to back without spending thousands then ya could make up your mind. Same for seats, exhaust and so on. I know I'm dreaming.
