I have CFR's, love the sound, and I have had no issues tuning them to not pop with a powervision. Are there mufflers that make more power? For sure, but on a stage 1 bike it doesn't make much power to begin with.
I love the sound of the mufflers, they aren't overly loud for cruising. I hear the radio without a problem, when you get on it they bark nicely.
I have sent mine back to have tips replaced for the chrome peeling, in fact they are back there right now. I put the stock mufflers on so I can ride and can't tell any difference in performance, or how it runs.

CFR had a problem with the chroming flaking off. I personally spoke to Gaye of CFR. They have a new chromer and the chroming issue is supposed to be fixed. I've only had my CFR's for 6 months and haven't noticed any flaking.
Using my PowerVision and AutoTune, I ran 3 sessions 20 minutes, 30 minutes and 40 minutes. The popping sound has gone away. I'm happy with them.

Getting ready to pull the trigger on cfr pipes for my 14 sgs. Only thing holding me back is I have read they are hard to tune and run like crap. Anybody have experience tuning them and advise me. Currently running jackpot 2/1/2 header, jackpot slip ons with comp baffles, se heavy breather, and power vision, and bike runs great now with no popping what so ever, just curious if the cfr's will perform decent? Dying to get these pipes after I have read how incredible they sound

Nothing I don't like about them, just wanting to change it up for something a bit deeper of a sound. After some research last night I decided to order bassani dnt mufflers, so my jackpot's with comp and regular baffles will be up for sale very soon if you're interested. They do sound great with the competition baffles and the pipes are in excellent shape.

I've had them on my last couple bikes. I am going to disagree with the guy that says the quality is top notch. The end caps have been peeling on these slip-ons for years. Do a search for CFR and peeling end caps. Cary said it was a bad batch of chrome at the beginning but 4 years later why do I still see post of it happening?
They are a PITA to tune. You won't get it perfect or even close. Can they be tuned enough to not do damage to the bike, yes. Are you going to experience shot gun pops when you rev the bike, yes.. and are you going to experience decel popping, yes. It's nature of having such an open pipe with no back pressure.
Some are probably wondering why I've had them on my last couple bikes. It's because I paid close to 700 dollars for them, and yes I do like the deep rumble. Would I buy another set, probably not.
As for the Harley not being a race bike, I agree. But losing low end torque is about more than just that. It has to do with getting on the interstate 1 or 2-up and having to down shift two gears to get some power to pull you up to speed. I actually had more low end torque with my stock slip-ons if that gives you a better concept of what you will lose.
If I can make a suggestion, I'd check out the Hi Rollers from Fuel Moto. They have a nice deep rumble and from what I've read they tune very well.
Hope that helps..

Are you going to win any races with CFRs? That depends on a lot more than what slip-ons you have. A built engine with proper tuning and CFRs will beat a stocker with any other slip-ons any day of the week.
Also, I have had my CFRs for over a year and no chrome flaking either. Their move to a new chromer has seemingly paid off.
Also, I get complimented on the sound of my bike almost every time I ride. If they weren't so expensive, I know several people that would have them on their bike right now after hearing mine. Personally, I like being the only guy I ride with that has them.
If you are looking for a mean, low rumble, you can't beat CFRs. Their fit and finish is amazing as is their sound. And you can tune them to completely eliminate popping. Despite what anyone else here will tell you.
Also, if you ever decide you want something different, there is a huge market of people out there looking for used CFRs that don't want to pay full price. Good luck unloading Vance and Hines or the more common slip-ons out there.
