Question Probably buying a 16 Red Ultra Limited - Stats

1. ... second time I'm asking. What are the common problems ? They all have them ..

2. Can this bike handle being ridden ... and Im not talking about some RUB Poser. Riding to the local hamburger place for a beer. I now have a 2012 Gold Wing and a VTX. I put 83k trouble free miles on the Wing since it purchase in 12/2011. Generally speaking .. can the FLHTK compare ?

3. Cost for a 16 Ultra red two tone
27449 msrp
2500 discount
499 doc
435 freight
500 setup
72 tags
-1150 times .03 nc tax on difference of trade only.
10% discount on parts
$200 gift card
A tee shirt

Figured give ya the whole deal ..

$15450 out the door/financed. I will add an extended warranty, slip ons and a heated seat. We ride year round just so long no frozen precip on the ground.

Its a new bike, any problem it has is covered under warranty. Why buy a new bike and already be looking for trouble before its even out the door?

as above it's a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty

the dealer will try to sell you a 3rd party extended service plan ( ESP)- it's easy cash for them

these ESP plans are easily voided by common owner mods- but can be well worth it if you are stock or near stock and do alot of riding

but the way you have been riding you'd do close to 40K under factory warranty...

maybe more because you'll be enjoying the bike so much.

common stuff- I know alot of guys have concerns with the infotainment systen- there is a sub forum for RUSHMORE models ( 2014+)

Thanks fellas. Hopefully Ill get a little more feed back.

KEITH .. Thanks .. and Im not trying to start a bunch of crap ... but all the bikes listed in my sig INCLUDING the 2006 Sportster not listed had common issues. So do the current Harley models. Heaven knows the baggers have had their fair share of recalls lately.

Ill tell you a quick story ... I hit the goldwing forums asking about the gold wing prior to that purchase . Greatest thing since sliced bread ... "Bulletproof" their words ...

To save myself thousands, I went to Chattanooga TN to buy it. Called the dealer, told them I was ready to leave; riding my trade. They said .. Ummm wait. Dont come. We cant sell you the bike. There is a recall on the brakes and we have to wait for the kit to arrive.

Brakes always act up a little when in the twisties of NC and its above 80.

So the moral of the story is ... I dont buy anything without first trying to find out what the common bad stuff is ... to me that makes sense. Especially when we are talking this kind of money.

Thanks again Chris

the 2016 is 98% the same as the 2015, 98% the same as the 2014...80% the same at the 2013....the diff there being the twin cooling, CANBUS electrics and the front end and & fairing with a mail slot.

the bottom of the motor, rest of the drivetrain, frame and swingarm, brakes and electronic controls are all same

It's not like Harley has introduced a new models it's the common year over year slight changes

rushmores:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/new-rushmore-models-177/

as far as general longevity H-D is still essentially designed so that repairs can be made- rather than replacing an assembly as a whole...so oil and filters and fixes here and there.
the machines now are better than they ever were

my 95 FLHTC had 82K when i sold it and still running strong for the buyer

my 88 has close to 90K

and my 09 is at 45K

my '53 is only 24K

You can definitely get 100K or more out these bikes.

Trouble free? Probably not. If you want to keep it beyond the 2 years, do try to get a deal on an ESP.

More fun than a Goldwing? Sure.
