Default Hd premium adjustable shocks used on pre-09

Sorry if this is an old topic or if there is already a thread, could not find any. I am looking for responses from riders who have ACTUALLY been running the new adjustable shocks for 09-newer bikes on a pre-09 frame and if you have had any issues. Looking to install on my FLHTCSE2 CVO Electra Glide, thanks.

the current shocks can be run on bikes back to the 1983 FLT.

the change to the shocks in 2009 wasn;t a physical fit/mount is was a change to the valving in the shock internals.
the length of the shocks and the shock travel was unchanged- 13"/2.75"
the 09 has a higher weight carrying capacity, the shocks were altered to deal with that and "for better rider comfort"...

I have them on my 2002, there are a few running them without issue. Below 2002 might be an issue. I have the 12" version, a little firm.

I am more concerned with stress or twisting of swingarm.

I don't notice anything, a twisting swing arm would be noticed.

No problems at all as long as you have the 02 -08 swing arm. Older than that look at them wrong they crack. But shocks won't matter. They do ride well for cheap money

The pre-09 swingarm was not as strong, not designed for the style shocks you are talking about.

There are many who have done it, and haven't yet seen an issue.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.

Those shocks have a different spring rate on each side, also different damping each side. That is why the '09 and later models have a stiffer swingarm, to minimise any affects of each side of the swingarm being under different loads.
