Ok here's a list of what I think I need, tell me if I'm wrong on anything or need to add to it.

1: 1 1/2" socket for comp bolt
2: t70 torx for se comp bolt
3: 1 3/16" socket for clutch nut
4: Primary locking tool
5: breaker bar
6: torque wrench
7: red loctite
I have read for the SE comp install some suggest a 1 1/2" open ended wrench? (socket?)

Kinda unclear what this is for.....to tighten the new comp nut? or do you just use the primary locking bar for that with the T-70 torx?

Tackling this on my 08 FLHTCU once it warms up here. Have most everything assembled to go (tools, supplies, parts). maybe the 1 1/2" tool I read about is for a different bike?

Posted this in 2 threads, wasn't sure which would get a reply!

Ya know this thread is like TWO years old.........would probably be best if you started a new thread with your question.....
Looks like you got everything needed.....not sure about 08's comp bolt though.

If your 08 still has the original compensator, there is no comp nut. Rather, it has a comp bolt and it is not 1 1/2”

thanks. Having read dozens of threads on this across multiple forums...lots of mixed info if the year of bike isn't present in the info.

I'm asking specifically about installing the NEW SE comp once my old one is removed. I read in some post the 1 1/2" was needed to help install the new comp? to hold a bolt while tightening the T70?

......I suppose with over 40 PAGES of compensator threads already, why not start another one asking a simple question....

yes I do, for each of my bikes.

Issue is, when one reads a comp thread if the specific year of the bike isn't in the post/thread, it can get confusing/contradictory.

Once its warmer here will tear into it....then my questions will be answered.

I see what you mean now. In the pic below, the sprocket retainer (arrow on upper right) would require 1 1/2” box wrench if you wished to hold while turning the compensator bolt (arrow bottom left)

Thanks. That is what I wondered.

Do most folks just use the primary locking tool to torque the T70 to final torque?

Yes, you’ll want to use the primary locking bar when tightening/torqueing either the comp or the clutch so they don’t spin
