Maybe a description of the noise your hearing would help to determine if what your hearing is normal after a cam change or not.

Well, mine are not noisey. As said above, try to give a good description of what you're hearing.

As far as valve train noise, the s&s lifters and the 57h cams honestly got rid of a lot of engine noise. However the overlap that the 57h has did create a lot of breather noise. As others have stated what is the noise your referring to?

As said, 57s tend to have a lot of reversion..... intake noise. Sounds like tapping on a wooden drum. If you put your hand over the intake it will get quieter if that's the source.

If it's in the top end. I have a cure for that

It could be something other than the cams that's creating noise. I recently tore into my 04 88" due to cam chain tensioner wear issues. My bike had top end noises to begin with so I chose to remove the rocker boxes and check everything for proper clearances. I found the rocker arm to carriage clearance to be .012" on both intake and exhaust. There are different shims available to drop this down to the bottom of the .004" - .025 range called out by Harley, I set mine up at .005" The BIG problem my bike had was the rockerarm shafts are cut for the carriage bolt on 1 end to lock the bolt into the carriage when installed. The cut out for this bolt is much larger than needed allowing the shaft to rock back and forth against the bolt. I looked around and found a video from Rocker Lockers describing this and there are other products out there that do the same thing. To make this short, These products eliminate this gap and with new cams, new lifters and stock pushrods. I have no top end noise.
My last bike (03- 88") I went went adjustable pushrods and although I could play with the pushrod preload adjustment, I was never able to get the engine noise free.
I hope this helps folks with the older bikes .

I went through the top end this winter which included newly honed cyl and new .10 over harley pistons. heads are stage 2 just done 83cc . new S/E adj. tapered pushrods 3plus 2 flats, fueling lifters, rocker lockers, new rocker supports and shafts.motor is quiet running but at around 2-2100 rps there is a distinct taping noise which goes away above or below this rpm. was there all last year . was not there when it was 96 with stage 1 and S&S 551 cams which i liked a lot.also what outher cam would give me lots of bottom and mid with this build. some says the 57 is more of a mid range cam. please help. thanks.PS. i will try to look at the intake today.
