Default Anyone swapped lower forks on a 2014-2016?

I searched around but wasn't comming up with much for the new 49mm forks on the rushmores

Has anyone swapped thier lower forks to chrome or PC? I've done many leg swaps on the older forks but looking at the service manual it looks more complex with a cartrage style using few speciality tools I don't currently have .. Anyone done a write up or am have any pointers .. The local stealer wants 180 for just labor if I carry the disassembled parts in and have them re assemble them that just seems salty to me

Thanks chris

Your probably going to get the same answers as your post in the Rushmore section.

It's more than just the lower forks. The triple trees are different, bearings, etc... Howard at Motorcyclemetals makes triple trees for mounting 49mm forks on bike that come with 41mm forks.

Figured someone might have done a set for a buddy that may not own a newer one and might not look in the Rushmore section

Yes, I have, on a '14 Limited, over this winter.

The only "specialty tools" I needed were 2 large allen-style wrenches for the top caps and bottom bolts--the ones that hold the forks together and seal the oil in on the bottom.

I have alternative tools on hand that I have made to address these two things, since they are bigger than any standard allen wrench or socket extension allen that I have in a proper kit.

The fork assembly is no different than any other semi-modern right-side-up fork with two internal bushings and an oil seal. Easy-peasy. Oh yeah, PVC pipe of the right diameter makes a good bushing and seal driver. I guess that's another "specialty tool".

I went with a chroming vendor from California, who pre-sent out a set of chromed replacement lowers, and refunded the core charge (less shipping one way) upon returning my stock lower legs.

Here's a pic or two:

All the best,

Shane

If you're swapping lowers on the Rushmore touring model "low" then yes you will need specialty tools for the cartridge fork on the left fork, it's called the "fork spring compressing tool". The procedure itself is not difficult but I don't have anything written up for it. I'm sure there's something on YouTube though.
