Default Bike dies when put in gear

I have a '10 street glide and it suddenly just died. Red key light on dash flashed and no power, no lights nothing.

I checked fuses, battery connections all good. Turned ignition on then got power but when I put in gear she dies.

Any ideas what could be the problem.?

No lights would mean nothing passing through the Maxi-Fuse. Can you trace the positive with a voltmeter when she dies? Tap the battery leads, one could be damaged inside.

The headlight stays lit on mine and the red key does not display.
The odometer displays "JIFFY STAND" as my engine stops.

International models have the sidestand interlocks. Americans don't get that safety feature. I would check the clutch adjustment.

Why would the lights turn OFF when the engine stalls ?

I have the sidestand interlock switch on my FLHP, but my buddy has an 2011 FLHX 1st owner and he also has a sidestand interlock switch.

OP, have you isolated whether or not your whip has the switch?

The issue was a wire in the casing by the frame neck on right side.

About 6 months ago I had an issue of engine light coming on with thw codes. A local shop discovered the wires by frame neck where broken.

Somehow they must have not connected and secured the wires well because the hot wire either broke or separated again.

All fixed and running now so all is good. Lesson learned if happens again. ..check battery, fuse and wires by frame neck.

Is it possible to know the color code of the broken wire(s) ?
