Street Glide price advice - go, no go?
Quick question for you Touring experts! I have an '05 Wide Glide that I'm interested in trading in for a Street Glide. (I do love the Wide Glide, but I've been itching for a Street Glide for some time.)
Obviously I'm getting slightly screwed with the trade-in (convenience of not scheduling private-party test rides and haggling), but I'd like your input in reference to the price. Street Glide prices (due to their popularity) are ALL over the place, seemingly irregardless of year or mileage, so it's difficult to know what's a "good deal."
The one that I'm looking at is a 2011 Street Glide with 29,000 miles. It's chromed up (nice, but obviously we add our own touches), and it has a 2-2 Rineheart exhaust setup, obviously fluid changes and new tires. Very clean looking all around. The listed price is $15,999 with around $600 of taxes. Dealers fees seem very small comapred to when I bought the Wide Glide.
What's your all's input? I understand they're a profit-making organization, no problem with that, although does this seem like a "reasonable" deal or is there any likely wiggle room that you've seen?
Thanks!

if you are really concerned about pricing...you'll sell privately and buy privately.
otherwise you will be spending a few thousand more and getting less on the trade
the equation is "how much $ is your time worth"...walking into a dealer is faster and easier
kbb.com will give a good indication of retail ( that's in a shop) and trade-in values- private party is usually a little more than 1/2 way between those figures.
in some States there are advantages to private party sales...for instance in AZ you pay no sales tax on a private deal.

Out here in Colorado you have a choice of several 2015's Street Glides for only $3,000 more and the differences between the 15' & 11' is night and day... http://denver.craigslist.org/mcd/5485935091.html
Here is a 2012 for $12,999 - http://denver.craigslist.org/mcd/5441159918.html

Seems like a high price, but the only number that matters is how much you have to pay difference between the two bikes. So, if another dealer is asking $3k less for the SG, but allowing you $4k less for your WG, well, its going to cost you more. As mkguitar suggested, check the used motorcycle guides on both bikes. Check retail for the SG. Figure about half way between retail and trade-in for your WG. Subtract the two to get the difference and aim to be somewhere near that number for a fair deal for you and the dealer. Good luck. SGs are a nice ride.
