Police Week-2007
Hello All! I was able to get some free time and get onto the computer. This week is National Police Week here in the Washington, Dc area. My Unit is the host Motor unit thatescorts the ceremonial motor units and tour buses of survivors into and out of the capital. So far, I put over 500 hard miles on my motor screaming up and down the highway in the last two days alone.[what a blast!! and I'm actually getting paid for this] New this year, two state troopers brought their hyabusa's in stealth black- I'll try to get pics. I'm not into sport bikes- but you got to see these bikes!!!!!!!!! there in my favorite color - BLACK!!! Every year , we have a Harley Rep ride with us. He works part time for a police agency in Milwaulkie. I tried getting some info out of him about the new 2008's and he was tight lipped. Hmmmm, maybe I can get a few beers in him one night before he leaves..LOL. He also brings mechanics with him to help out if problems arise with ANY police unit. The majority of the police units are Harley's. The only others I've seen are BMW's [Sacremento S/O] We give them hell all of the time ..LOL..So far, all is good with no one down! The best part of the week was today. We escorted the Children survivors to the FBI headquarters in quantico,va. As we arrived, All the students [ high ranking cops] in the National Academy aligned the street and clapped as we pulled in. I spent time with the kids and gave a lot of motor unit pins away. On Sunday, we escorted the cilvilian bikers on the Law Ride. Saw some really cool bikes. Will give a final word and some pic's when police week is over. Stay safe and please be patient when I'm rolling mach 1 up the road to shut down an intersection this week.- HardCore Out!

Man, it must be awsome to be a motorcycle cop. And on a Harley to boot. I have a lot of respect for police, and in turn, they have always showed me that same respect. I always thought that I would end up in blue, but at 35 tears old in June , it doesn't look like it will happen. After leaving the Corp, I have just not been able to stay fit. I am one lazy SOB, just ask my wife. Plus, I know I would pop dumbasses in the head to much. Thank you for yours, and all the other police, service. My heart is always with our soldiers, but when I ride, I always give the police a harley wave (and NO, not the finger).

DB10881,
The memorial is very impressive, but, seeing it with all of the little items left behind by family, co-workers and friends is very moving. I strongly encourage any LEO to make it to police week at least once in their career. The candle lightceremony is also done very well.I've gone for a number of years and lets just say words can't describe the events and goings on! Lots of fun!

Yes, you are correct- I ride in it everyday, 10 hrs a day. That is why my agency is one ofthe lead agencies doing the escorts -a.k.a the working motors, because of the experience. Many motor officers from big cities have commented that traffic in their jurisdictions does'nt even compare to the D.C. area. You got to be on your toes and lookout for motorists and other motor units that are not experienced to this type of riding.
