I use the short ones the same way JKL05ULTRA does. I'm 5'9' with a 30' inseam and they work fine for me. Tooka fewtest rides to get them positioned right though.

I also have the short adjustable ones, after a few test rides and some adjustments I'm real comfortable. I'm 5'10 32' inseam.

Go with the short angled mounts. They worked fine for me.

that was a nasty trick. you got me all excited cause i thought maybe i could get some highway pegs that i could use. well, followed that link and found that it would run me almost 300 bucks (with shipping). yowzers! thats a little steep for me.
