Would these be the mufflers?
http://www.holley.com/27622HKR.asp
On this page is the instructions on how to adjust them.
Just click the instructions link .PDF file will open.
Shows an adjustment of 40% for sound.
I would be curious as to the actual change when you adjust them.
Most guys don't try any other settings other than loud, but the performance may go up with less noise.

Rush makes nice slip-ons that are adjustable by removing one screw & swapping baffles. They have baffles available from 1.5" (quiet) up through 2.5" (loud.)
You can find them new on the internet for as low as $215, and about $250 on ebay.

Do the pipes have any baffle material in them? Pull the baffles and check. If they aren't wrapped, maybe you can try wrapping them to quiet the pipes, before you spend the cash on new pipes.

I have the Rush slip ons with the 1.50" baffles and must say they are *not* quiet.
I also have the V&H True Duals, 26g, big boys heads and 95" kit.
While they do quiet down at speed, they are definitely rockin coming up thru the gears
even while trying to "keep it down".

They do have fiberglass packing in them.

I have the Rush 1.75's They will bark if you make em. I'm really happy with them (10 x's better than the V&H turn downs that were on the bike when i bought it, talk about loud). They quiet down when crusing. I can hear the tunes no problem on the highway.

How's the perfomance of the pipes? How about a Vance and Hines pro-pipe. Mind you, I'm coming from a Yamaha Roadstar Warrior with a lot of mods background. I would prefer performance over sound though sound is important.

I knew you were a an X metric rider.
I never really thought that that the hooker slip-ons were all that loud. I'd bet the setting it turn to the loud setting. I'd try that before swaping pipes. But if it's performance your after then I'd go with a 2-1.

If it's too loud than you're too old...

It's not just me. Friends don't like to ride behind me because they are too loud. Small animals I pass by actually die! Deaf people give me the finger! I do like loud to a point, but these are too loud. My Warrior would scream when I would hit it but at cruising speeds it was tolerable. I'm sure they are hitting 90-95+db at cruising speed.

I run the Rush 2.50. If I want it quieter, (NEVER) I can always slip in a quieter baffle.
