POLL: "Touring" BREMBO Caliper UPGRADE - USING Original Master or Brembo?
#11
I got a 2008 Brembo HD Touring master cyl, calipers, & rotors on eBay. It came with a matching clutch lever too. The new front brake line I got from a dealer & filled with DOT 4. The Brembo calipers bolt right on the 2004 forks, and the Brembo rotors bolt right on the 2004 wheel & line up nice. The improvement over my original 2004 system was huge, easy swap too.
I put a Brembo caliper & rotor on the rear too, but had to hone the caliper arm from 25mm to 1" axle, then it went on fine. When I realized the new Brembo master for the rear might require welding it onto the frame, I went with a new (clean) 2004 rear master & filled with DOT4. Rear works ok, and it's much easier to get the rear caliper off now (unbolts from the arm), but I think the rear would work better with a matching Brembo master.

Although most people doing the Brembo swap would be doing the front only

I'm doing both ends as well. In addition to honing the rear caliper mount an additional axle spacer is needed, to make up for the difference in thickness between the two generations of mount.

Original to bike
No changing master cover
No mismatched fluids front and rear
No concern with paint damage
All Good
