I use the harley filter wrench, no problems.
I did run into a similar issue with my Honda Civic. I was traveling quite a bit for work and had to change oil every 2-3 months. I used the same "socket" style filter wrench along with the same brand filters for years without an issue. Then out of the blue the wrench started slipping on the filters. It turned out the filter manufacturer started using thinner metal which changed the outside dimensions of the filter making the wrench quite a bit looser than it should be. I went back to using Honda filters which my wrench still fit perfectly.
