Question Spot lights

I have an 02 Road King Police Bike. I hooked up the spot lights to stay on while the head light is on bright. Being a police bike the lights were fixed this befor, The wires were already there all I did was take the black tape off the stock wire and put the other wire back in it's place. Everything worked like it should. Couple days later I went for a ride got back to the house and shut bike off to open the garage. Went back to start it up and the battery was dead. I keep it on a trickle charger with a fully charged light and a charging light. Battery will take charge but the second I turn on the spots the charge light comes on. What do I need to do to fix the problem. Really don't want to put it back the way it was. And I did put a brighter head light bulb in while I had it apart.

I'd check your battery. Have it load tested. Also need to check the voltage of the charging system with the engine running. I had a bad battery once that kinda did the same thing. If I left it on a tender over nite it would be fine the next day while sitting while I was at work. If I didn't leave it on a tender it would not start in the morning.

tallj2000, I thought I would do that tomorrow. Befor I take it all back apart. The battery is not hardly 2 years old, I know that dosen't mean anythnig, but I don't really feel like that's the problem. My luck says it wouldn't be that easy. LOL Thanks. It's ran ok until I did the mods, And the bike ran good as long as it was running.

Just giving you my experience. I would of never thought my battery was bad. It was less then two years old as well. I even had the battery tested and it tested good. Drove me nuts trying to find the problem. Tested the charging system and even looked for a excessive power draw. Found nothing. New battery and problem went away.

There may be an electrical problem with the wiring to those lights. Use a multimeter to check voltage at the battery with them switched off, engine running, than again when you switch them on. Also check your charging circuit, you will find hints in the Tech Electrical section stickies.
