Art of the Deal

Dealers know they have a 5k+ profit margin on new touring bikes thats highly negotiable with any buyer. Does anybody even think freight and prep frees are realistic? It doesn't not cost $435 dollars per bike to ship it to a dealer. The video i posted showed how little time is required to prep it. That video was from a dealer. So yeah they are ready to drive off the lot like a new car upon delivery pretty much. They are test ridden at the MOCO before delivery ready to ride. It's called quality control.
My last major purchase was a brand new cage. I got $3500 off MSRP in cash rebates. I think anybody that pays over the sticker price on a new HD is being taken to the cleaners. My last HD purchase was on CL . I offered 60% of what a dealer would of sold it to me cash for a garage queen with under 2k miles. Dealers know any prospective buyer can do this.
My goal is to get either a 2016 RGU,RGS or SGS OTD for 1000 to 1500k under sticker. Many have scored a much better deal than that but if i can get that i'll be content.

I would like to see these companies that ship bikes for about 100 bucks. Send me some qutoes.
I seriously don't believe you because shipping costs vary from where you are shipping it From.
Certain dealers actually outsource there bike setup and use companies to do it for them instead of using their own techs to set up.

Used to get 1500 below MSRP OTD without even trying from Doug's Harley Davidson in Florence, SC. Bought 4 bikes from them that way.
Did all "Arting of the dealing" on the phone.
Of course later they got bought out (saved I suspected).
Oh well. Fun while it lasted.
EDIT: Did get 1200 under MSRP OTD from Low Country Harley last year on my Limited. It was a left over 2014 though.

Prep on an Ultra may be a little more involved than people think. Not that is a lot of work, but there is some.
The ones I saw Saturday had plastic surrounding much of the seat and body. The tour pack backrest, speakers, antennas were unattached. Update the radio, program the security, and check fluids. Fuel the bike and road test.

Ironically they don't define whats included in 3 year maintenance plan. I don't allow the dealership to do jobs that i'm capable of and thats inspection, oil changes and the 1-5-10-20 k schedule they rake less talented owners with who have no desire to work on their own bike. $435 dollars for freight is highway robbery. I work in logistics and know what it cost to ship things from point a to point b. I could ship that bike from Milwaukee to Ohio for a little over 100 bucks in a day or two with regional carriers.
Here is how much work is required to prep a new HD No assembly required.

It makes me wonder how stupid the MOCO thinks we are. I used to get paid an hour labor as an ASE auto mechanic for pre delivery inspection of new cars for a job that took about as long as this hd prep. I made $14.00 for 15 minutes work in the mid to late 90s

I'm no defender of the MoCo, or any of its dealers, but the freight charge is the same whether you live in York, PA or Daytona Beach, FL or Seattle, WA. The freight or shipping charge on the Monroney label of your new car is figured the same way. And its on the invoice to the dealer, so its part of the cost of the bike. Like the OP, I'm not much on those dealer maintenance agreements. Once the service writer knows your on that program, your 5k or 10k check up just became an oil change. RGUs are hot sellers in the Daytona area, but that may not be true everywhere, so I agree with the OP's strategy of shopping around. Find a market where they think RGUs are fugly and make a deal!

First offer OTD is $26,300 on a 2016 Road Glide Ultra in Superior Blue. Another dealer said $2500 Off MSRP minus tax, title , doc, etc. Their MSRP on the same bike is $26,299. Which is $23,799 before tax, title , doc, freight. Tax alone will be around 22-2400 not including all the other fees they try to tack on. I don't know if 25k cash can score me an OTD sale yet. What do you all think about the first OTD offer? Its basically OTD for sticker price.
