wife is right. buy new. Warranty, brakes, tires, your choices of color etc....Folks talk about beating the depreciation but new to three year old depreciation cost, is close to a 2 year old bike to 5 year old year depreciation cost. Worse if a newly revised model comes out.
Also, cash is always king. Mentioning a cash sale does not detract from a deal because those who need to finance must go through a eligibility process, and may fail. But yes, banks and dealers make money on financing.
Watch the reality shows on tv where the buyer whips out a roll of cash and seller 'lays down' fast.
BTW, your wife ROCKS

End of December when hd dealers were being pushed to sell new over used i would say you stood a better chance. I went in shopping used and couldn't get them to budge near as much on a used bike.
I have found when buying find out all the fees before making a serrious offer. Break them down in a spread sheet and start picking each line item apart until you get to the price you feel comfortable. Freight prep doc fees etc are all low hanging fruit. Make them justify those costs on a new bike rather than going in with an out the door price as your only ammo.
I am with the rest though. If you have cash i would give the used market a serious look first. The only reason i went new was the trade i had wasn't going to sell veey well in my area due to the lack of dealer support (ducati).

I actually prefer the RGS for the sole fact i ride solo 99% of the time. I would prefer a detachable backrest for my passengers riding needs. I can't justify 5-6k more for alot more weight and a trunk. You are right. Cash talks and BS walks to a serious seller. Thanks for your reply.

Oh hell ya! For me I like the red & red Ultra Limited. OTD some $30k to $31k. I spent $22k on my car and $26k on my SUV. No way do I drop that kind of $$$ on a bike
Boat? I've been thing about it.............. LOL

There are too many out there in my opinion to not really consider a bike that is a year old or less because someone else took the depreciation hit you can damn near steal one if someone is ready to let her go hell there are 2015 Ultra's going for less than $20k all over the place, with extended warranty and shitloads of extra's, most buyer's buy from dealer and get finance through dealer and get talked into spending $2-$5k on extra's

25 is a shot in the dark but it's worth a shot. You have better chances shooting for last year's model or even a 2nd hand model with low mileage right from hd.
My buddy just grabbed a 2014 rg with under 2k on it for 20 or 22 out the door. It had heavy breather elite , screaming eagle slipons and a tune. Overall he got a kick azz deal if u ask me.
Just do your homework good deals come up when least expecting.
