Default 1 ohm CVO boom speaker question

Hi all,
On the 2012 streetglide CVO the boom speakers in the fairing are only one ohm.
(Part number 77033-11a)

If i want to replace these with something better, do i need one ohm again ?
I thought all the 2006 to 2013 speakers were 2 ohm so an easy replacement??

Any help appreciated.

Rowle uk.

yes, all the 'stock' 2006 to 2013 speakers are 2 ohm. but the cvo system is not stock. if you replace it with a 2 ohm speaker, it'll work, but you lose some efficiency in your amp so it won't be as loud.

Thanks Skratch,
Will a 2 ohm speaker do any damage ?
Are there any "good" 1 ohm ones ?

sorry for the questions but here in the UK we don't get much help locally !

Thanks again.
Rowle.

if you use a higher ohm speaker, it shouldn't do any damage. it just won't have the volume that a proper impedance speaker would. the problem would come in if you use a lower impedance speaker, then the amp could overdrive itself.

any good 1 ohm speakers? not that I've seen. that's the main reason that I haven't done any audio upgrades on mine yet either..... big $$$$ to replace everything

someone did tell me that I could 'maybe' wire in a second 2 ohm speaker (like maybe another tweeter) in parallel with a main 2 ohm speaker which would give me 1 ohm of resistance, but I'm not sure that that would work

I'm not an electronics expert, but be careful wiring speakers in parallel - they are not resistors - the ohms is impedance - and I think that acts differently than resistance

Yes, putting two 2 Ohm speakers in parallel has the same effect = 1 Ohm.
Problem would now be, does the amp have enough power to drive both speakers loud enough to be adequate.

I wouldn't parallel 2-2ohm speakers just to get me down to 1ohm especially with the CVO amp because now you have to split the power output from that channel between 2 speakers and I don't believe you'd be pleased with the results. You'd be better off using a good 2ohm speaker to replace the 1ohm speakers you have. The loss in volume will be very minimal depending on the speakers you choose. The higher the sensitivity rating on the speaker the better as it takes less power to get loud. Look for sensitivity of at least 92db or higher.

I think Bose speakers operate on 1 ohm systems, you could stack a couple of 901's on your tourpak rack!
