Default Took Road Glide in for Wide Glide Bars

Took my 07 RG in for the installation of the Dyna Wide Glide bars from pre 2006. I had to about beg the dealer to do it. They questioned everything. I told them about the forum and lots of guys have done it. Only thing they should need to do is route the clutch cable to the outside of the fork and maybe straighten out the front brake line a little.

It will be interesting to see how it goes. They guessed it about 1.5 hours labor. I had to take it in for the upgraded "flash" anyway so figured might as well have them do the bars then.

Dang! 4 hours? They did show me in their book (they had right on the counter at the service desk) that they have 1.5 hours to remove bars and install new ones. They stated because they are re-routing the clutch cable and straightening the front brake line that it may take another .5 hours. Just to let me know..........

Be sure to post some pictures when it is done. What are the bars doing for you? Wider, farther back, higher? I to have heard of WG bars being used but never really paid any attention to it.

4 hours @ $60-$70/hr for a handlebar swap? That's CRAZY. I'm going to buy the bars and do the work myself. It's not hard to take off the ignition switch, take off the plastic cover and unscrew the clamp.

I think you are finding that the brake line on the WG bars will also have to be bent and the cost of labor is going to be high... maybe those wild ones might not have been all that bad after all

Also, I agree with other posters here - this is not a hard job and very rewarding to you after its all done... plus save a bunch of $$$ for other "things we really do not need, lol"

bucs102 - if you really like the WG barsand when (or if) your ever in need of something different... take a look at Wild1 513 - pretty much the exact same as WG except "Chubbies" once you wrap your hands around a chubby - no looking back...

Why would it be so cost prohibitive to bend cables (if they even need to be bent) ?

This job is not going to the Dealer. I have an independent contractor who does my work for me. So it's half the cost of the dealer right out of the box. Most of the time I barter with this guy so it doesn't cost me anything, anyway. Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me though, I appreciate the advice and information.
