Hey, Bryan, good idea, but if I disconnect the PCIII, how will I know? Right now the only way I can see the throttle position is through the PCIII software, so if I disconnect it, I won't be able to see the throttle position. I could check to see how it runs, but since I've changed the a/c and exhaust, it will probably run lean throughout the range. Not sure what to check?
My point above was to take it to the dealer. Their diagnostic software should be able to tell TP. I don't know for sure, but you would think they would have that capability.
Iclick, the dealer I took it to for tuning was not my normal dealer and was about 50 miles away from home, so I was reluctant to have them start tearing into the bike. The dealer I normally go to doesn't know a thing about PCIII's, but I'm sure they could check out the TPS. By the time I make an appt and take it in and they can get to it, I can probably have the PCIII checked out and replaced or returned. Sort of like chicken or the egg -- which comes first. Since I usually get in the wrong line wherever I go, I'm sure I'll pick the worst option that takes the longest!

If you bought it from Jamie, I would give him a call and tell him the problem.

If you had a bad TPS, it would be bad w/o the PCIII too. The problem is in the PCIII.

I thought Jamie "doubled the factory warranty" from 1 to 2 years. Why is he sending you to DynaJet for an RMA?

I've had great luck with PCIII's over the years. In fact, I've never had one fail. However, now that I'm playing with the DTT system(s).... I have to say there is a BIG difference.

"Sorry to be so long, but got to talk to someone and wife's not interested!"

Yes! We're always here for you, never hesitate to come tothe Clubhouse for advise.

I'm sure Jamie will make it right. Myguess is the unit is faulty, not your bike. Jamie will send you a new one is my guess.

Let us know.

Hey folks, just got home and read the latest messages.

I did call Jamie when I first got home yesterday and he said he hasn't seen this kind of problem before, but he suspected the PC was bad. However, he DID send me to Dynojet for a warrantly replacement, which will be a PITA since I have to send them my old one before they can send me the new one. Said they have to verify it's bad first. Since I use this bike for commuting and since gas seems to be going up daily, I'm not a happy camper, but seems I'm out of options.

Dynojet said I could buy another PCIII from them, then send the old one back, and that if they determined it was bad they would credit me for the old one, but with my luck they would get the old one back and say it was fine, then I would own two PCIII's.

I did work on the bike today just to verify what the tuner found yesterday. Odd thing is I can't get the PCIII to power up unless the bike is actually running, not just with the ignition on. Throttle immediately goes to 100% and stays there, as does the top green light on the PCIII. I tried a master reset on the PCIII as well as a button reset, but same result. Tried to reset the throttle but since it's seeing 100%, I can't reset 0%. Like some of you have said, I think this PCIII is toast.

So, I'll send it back first thing Monday. Kyle at Dynojet said he could check it out as soon as he receives it and get another one coming to me quickly, so maybe I won't be without long. IF THIS GOES SOUTH [:@] AND THEY SAY THE UNIT IS FINE, I WILL BE ASKING YOU FOR ADVICE ON WHAT I SHOULD GET THAT WILL ACTUALLY WORK! Okay, now that I shouted that out, I feel better.

I appreciate the input and will let you know how this turns out. Looking forward to having a good running bike.

for the first year, you have to return it to dynojet re: regular factory warranty, the second year, you send it to fuelmoto.

Well, got the PCIII removed today and the bike's on the stand for several days while I send the old unit back to Dynojet for replacement. [:@] For some reason, I've got a real bad feeling that they are going to come back and say it's my bike causing the problem, which will tick me off to no end. But guess I'm just being negative -- think positive TD, think positive.

Interesting, but installing this thing was a PITA, but removing it took about 15 minutes! Guess it helps to have done it once.

I had decided that I was going to start riding the bike to work tomorrow, since the monsoons have gone away and gas has gone up more than it should, so I'll just have to take my metric bike. Pulled her out, cleaned her up, and she's ready to go tomorrow. Rode it most of last Spring, Summer, & Fall, so guess I'll do it again for the next week or so.

you can have a bad tps, but not very likely.
A service manual will tell you how to check it out.
Probably will need the electrical diagnostic manual also.

My 2001 flht manual gives the full directions.
Where it says you need a break out box, you can subsitute two needles
slipped down parallel to the wires into the back of the ecm connector and read the voltage
with a DVOM
If you know how. If not a trip to the indy or dealer and let them check it.

Thanks, choochoo, hadn't even occurred to me to check the diagnostics section. I should be able to check it out -- I've had a ham radio license since ' 68, so that knowledge has to be good for something!
