Not wanting to add any insult, but have you thought of using RJ's Orignals?

They not only look good but don't take forever to put on and they are durable as well as functional!

If these are the Kuryakyn style clear or smoked saddle shields, here are the Kuryakyn instructions. Not sure if these are any better than the HD version.

RE: Heat shields designed by idiots.
UPDATE.
I went to a ACE hardware store today and bought a 1/4" hex wrench.
I had them use their chain cutter and cut both the short and long stem in half.
Cost .90 cents. I will try it out tonight after work.
I was told that Brand K could be put on in 15 min. But NOOOOOO!!!
I had to do it the hard way. More later when completed.

I put the Kurys on my 07 SE. Had to loosen the back of the tank and lift the trays that carry the wires under it. I called them before I started and they recommended I have help to start the upper bolts but I got it in about an hour. Bit of a pain, but worth it.

IM FINISHED DAMN IT.
Brand K looks alot easier to install.
Anyway I done all together about 5 Hrs.
Spent the last 2.5 washing and cleaning the bike.
Tomorrow it is BUGSVILLE all over again.
Thanks to all who replied.
The cut down hex wrench is the key to a easier job.

RE: Heat shields designed by idiots.
Hi guys, I got nervous after reading these posts. I had ordered a pair of the HD ones and thought maybe a mistake. I got them yesterday and put them on this a.m. I think this is a two person job. I had my wife come out and help hold some pieces in placeand I put the washers and screws in...big help. Probably took me about 30 minutes with her helping me. I tried them out and they seem to work pretty good for just a 45 minute ride. I have an 05 black ultra so they blend in really nice. Long term will see how they work. So far I'm pleased with them but having another person really helped the installation.
