I personally gave up looking for the perfect sound years ago by listening to videos posted by other well meaning riders on my laptop speakers. I listen to the real thing now. Heck, people even post sound clips of their bikes idling in a friggin' garage!
My exhaust combo's included V&H twin slash rounds with quiet baffles on true duals, not too bad actually, one of the best sounds I had on my FHLR. Sold them for a slight profit, then got a deal on some mint twin slash ovals without quiet baffles, OMG, deafening and would obviously require a whole new tune as the bike didn't have enough power to pass a '68 VW van. Monster rounds were alright too, extremely heavy however, exrtremely heavy!
eBay is your friend, always buy used, take your time searching and I really don't think you could improve much on what you have now.

My biggest bitch about MGS is the fit. They are short and barely cover the end of head pipe. Plus they don't dimple them to clear rear axle. Their solution is to shim them down....I don't like that idea. Looking to upgrade and so far the High Outputs are my fav.

Yep, the Hi-Outputs are just as heavy. Silly heavy.

Had hi-ouputs now for 3 years.
  • love the sound.
  • loss of low down torque (not massive)
  • chrome has come off tips.

Default Vance and Hines High Output Slip ons

Well, i went from the hi-outputs to MGS both ran off of dresser duals. I felt a slight seat of the pants increase in tourqe with the MGS over the hi-outputs, but my bike is stock. I miss the low rumble of the hi-outputs, but i like the sound of the MGS as well. I tried out the OS 450's and really liked them, just wish they worked with my saddlebag extensions, 4"is as big as i can go. The OS 450's have the same seat of the pants feel as the MGS (if not better), they have the low rumble of the hi-outputs (but not as loud or as aggressive sounding, even tried them with out the baffle sock). Hope that helps somewhat. Good luck with your decision.

More and more thinking about going with my original plan and get some 4" Rineharts. Have the sound I'm after but have the smaller baffle.

I have the 4.5 inch V&H HO's on my limited pared wth power duals. They are loud enough for me. I can do the 600 mile days in comfort.

I am told the V&H HO will reduce your low end torque unless you have a worked motor, they are simply too open. If you want rumble take a look at the Bassani DnT......they sound nice.
