Dash mount oil temp gage
#61
I have a H.D. oil temp gage that was just installed and when you turn the ing. on the gage goes to 110 deg. and stays there. I rode for about 2 hours and it stayed there. I dont want to take it back and leave it at dealer to see if he can figure it out. It is my only transportation. The cooler feels hot like the therm. is open. Any ideas?

I never could. If I get in a lot of stop and go traffic it will go up to 220 -230 or so. But after I ride for a few miles it goes rite back down to 110-120. I have the gage hooked up to a TEE in the oil coolers lines. I have a bushing that will allow me to hook the gage to the oil pan. I will see if that makes a differance.

oil temp gauge install
after reading the thread i decided to install the harely gauge # 75265-04A into my 2005 FLHT Standard. running the sensor line no problem. plug adapter, bushing, sending unit no problem. until i attempted to connect the wires into the back of the new oil temp. gauge . straight forward where the yellow wire from the sending unit connects. the black wire goes to the ground post on the back of the new temp gauge. do you have to make a jumper for the orange wire and the 2nd black wire that the instructions call for ? Which plug do you jump the orange and black in to ? the gauge i received has post with ring terminals required not male terminals to plug into. the instructions say connect the 2 black wires and 1 orange wire to the post on the back of the new gauge. which black wire do i connect ? there is a plug with a black and orange wire that is close by it is the plug that goes into the the bulb if i were installing the useless air temp. gauge. i was going to make jumpers to plug into the existing plugs rather than cut any of the harness . any help would be appreciated . thank you

I also remember having enough slack in the wiring loom to be able to pull it through the fairing face and work on it there where I had lots of room. I could then attach the wires to the back of the oil temp gauge before inserting it in the fairing face which was much easier than trying to attach them from the back side of fairing where you've got all the other wires and brackets to work around. Reinstalling the gauge retention bracket required the use of a 1/4" drive ratchet, extension, and socket. All in all, it was pretty painless.
Good luck,
Steve R.
