Default purge tank

So i am going to install a sight line fuel gauge on a tank and am wondering what techniques you have used to get the fumes out before drilling and welding.

I have seen people fill the tank with water first.

a shop may use steam injection to carry away any fumes.

Tech used dry ice to replace the oxygen before welding on a tank I had.

I'll be staying out of Washington for a while!

I'm interested to know why you want to do this? It'll spoil your paint......

If you are going to TIG weld the bungs in use Argon to purge while welding. If MIG welding use CO2 to purge while welding. Basically use the same gas as you use for shielding. I would still rinse the tank out with water and let it sit out to dry and air out.

so I went and talked with the power coat guy and he was telling me to fill the tank with 3/4 water and let the excess gas rise. After a few minutes fill up let it sit and dump it out. Repeat but this time after it is full of water to light a propane torch and slowly wave it above the tank a few feet and work my down. This should clear it and then he will but it in the oven and burn the rest of it. So I think I will give this a go because it sounds safer the the videos I have been watching.

Let's do things the easy way. Drain the tank completely then let it sit in the open air with a small fan blowing into it for a few hours or a few days, it's your call.
