Default Clutch cover

Going to be installing new bars and cables. Do you have to remove the exhaust to get the clutch cover off? Looks pretty tight.

Depends on the exhaust your running.

Basically, yes. Some may tell you that you can loosen the exhaust or some such, but removing and reinstalling the side cover takes some room that just moving the exhaust to the side will not usually give.

It can be done without removing the exhaust, it's a real bitch getting at the cover screws especially the bottom ones.

You'll need a small allen key, one with a ball end works well once the torque is broken.

Worst case you may need to loosen the exhaust just to get some wiggle room, but I managed to get mine off without.

Also pay attention to the length of the screws, there are a couple that are longer than the rest. If you look at the cover it won't be hard to figure out where they belong, but save yourself the aggravation and put them in the right spot the first time.

I like to loosen off all the exhaust nuts and stick a piece of 2x4 in between the pipe and some part of the bike to allow access to the tranny side cover for the clutch cable. Tricks of the trade...

Works like a charm on stock exhausts. No so much on aftermarket stuff.

I do it with after market exhausts too. Guess it depends on what system you have.

I agree it's still doable but it's much more challenging.
