The 103 wasn't standard issue till 2012. It was an option in 2011. It was only standard on the Limited that came out in 2010.

Even though you have everything the "Power Pack" bikes had in 2011, yours is not.

....and FOB batteries are cheap at Lowes, Walmart... the gas station... and small enough to keep a spare on the bike. And set and learn your PIN....

Here's 20 batteries for $7.20. Should probably last you at least the next 10 years for both fobs.

That's 72 cents a year...

I did the same thing on my 2011 RK and sold the HFSM and FOBS(what he called a TSSM). On newer proximity security systems it's call Hands Free Security Module. I bought a TSM off Ebay, rode to the dealer and swapped it in the lot. They pushed the bike into the shop and updated the ECM so it would run. There is a procedure to do it yourself that's akin to an Evil Simple Simon game that I just didn't want to go thru. The dealer didn't charge me much to use the Digital Tech to reset the ECM.

On my 2002 Dyna I swapped out the TSSM for a TSM and didn't have to do anything; it started right up. That's been a year or so ago. Sorry for the jack, but getting rid of security is pretty easy.

they don't drain the battery that much. if you're gonna leave your bike sit that long, then a tender would probably be a good idea. mine has sat for 3 weeks and when i went to hook up the tender, it was stil showing a full charge.

fob batteries dieing should not leave you stranded. if they do, that's just operator error. you don't just hop on your new bike and take off without at least looking at the manual to learn how to use it. setting the code is the first thing i do at the dealership before i take off. your fob battery doesn't have to die to leave you in a 'no start' situation. you could be hit with some kind of rf interference that keeps you from starting. in that case, would you rather just input a code with your thumbs or push your 900 lb touring bike around the parking lot trying to find a spot where you can start? i know what i would rather do

I've never towed my bike but wouldn't leaving the fob with the bike negate having to put it in transport mode or whatever it's called?

Power Pack, Power Pak, who cares. Tell people you have a 110th anniversary Road King and leave it at that.

90% of all motorcycle thefts occur by four guys lifting the bike into the back of a van or trailer. The security system won't stop that. I lock the ignition and forks so the other 10% (joy rides) won't happen. It's not worth the aggravation to me...

Check your facts. The RGU in 2011 had the 103 as standard. The rest followed in 2012.

No, just leaving the fob with the bike isn't enough. As the vehicle its in or on bounces over bumps, the bikes sensors detect that movement and flashes the lights. Do that over a long enough trip and it will drain the battery. The alarm must be set to transport or only take a short trip. Cause a 7-8 hour trip killed my brothers Ultra.
