BCT baffles in CFRs and Dresser Duals
'15 SGS with dresser duals CFR KO's and a FP3 tuner. Bike runs good but lost some low end Tq with the open 4" baffles of the CFR's. Decided to try the QQ BCT baffles. Took the cone off prior to install. Install was easy and here's my findings...along with questions.
I'm running the same tune as before the BCT baffles.
1. The bike definitely quieted down.
2. Prior to the baffles, the cold start was very loud, now it's just loud.
2. Decel popping is all but gone, to the point it doesn't really pop. More like a burble.
3. The decel reverb(off throttle 3k decel) was VERY prominent(obnoxious for all the time) without the baffles, it is now completely opposite. Very slight reverb on decel.
4. Low end tq is there. Off idle 1200rpm clean pull. 2k rpm roll on in any gear is clean(in comparison to prior)
5. Top end feels soft, now this might be from the Tq curve being much flatter and not peaky as it was prior to the baffles.
6. The raspy bark of the CFR's is gone. It's flat deep, which in turn is less loud.
Here's the question, I have not changed the tune but I wonder if this is needed with the baffles. Not even sure there is a baffle tune for the DD and CFR for the FP3.
I'm also wondering is drilling out the "washer" a bit would bring some more sound back?

I can't speak for the knock-offs because I have the real CFRs, but it seems that you just undid all of the unique qualities of CFRs.
People that put on CFRs definitely aren't looking for low end torque, there are a lot of other options for that. CFRs have a unique sound and they are loud as hell. I would imagine if quieter pipes plus low end torque is what you wanted, there would have been many better ways to achieve this than CFRs and additional baffles.

I want the sound and the low end. There is a happy medium. Not sure I've found it yet. Might do a auto-tune for a awhile. This is also my 3rd set of these on different street glides. They are too loud when hard on the throttle. This is my opinion without a helmet. This might not apply to those that wear lids with ear protection. CFR's scream when 1/2 throttle or better. I always found that obnoxious. Love the deep tone but too much is too much, IMO.
Plenty of people run these bct baffles in this set-up. I didn't get the cone delete all on my own.

Just curios, what were you looking to achieve with the knock offs?

The same sound for a 1/4 of the price. Which is what it is. I've had all the popular exhausts on these SG's. I keep coming back to these. This BCT did in deed make it a little more HO and Riney4" sounding. I just wanted a little less crackle to it. Some is nice and can be fun but maybe I'm getting old..lol

That's essentially what these are now. I'm addicted to the CFR sound but not the CFR price nor the CFR low end issue. This is kind of my solution....working solution that is.

Real helpful replies, folks.
Actually, what Shore has now with the addition of the small baffle, probably sounds closer to a real CFR system. I'll explain.
I used to sell CFR's when I worked at the dealership. If my memory serves correct, real CFRs have a small baffle (similar to the the QQ BCTs) at the front of the muffler in conjunction with a screen along the entire length, wrapped in silencer matting.
I do know for a fact (because I have them) that CFR KO's have nothing but a screen the entire length of the muffler wrapped with what looks like residential grade insulation that blows out after 50 miles, and NO additional baffles. I repacked mine with 2500f ceramic matting...problem solved, and it quieted them down a bit.
Sorry I can't answer your tuning question Shore, but I've had the same additional baffle idea as you for some time since first seeing the inside of a real CFR.
Good luck.

Running the auto-tune will get you as good as you can get with the FP3, which will be pretty close to as good as you can get with a dyno tune.
I know you already spent the $ on the BCT's, but if you spend $23 more for some "W" Thunder Torque Inserts you will keep your top end, and you will gain even more on the low end than you did with the BCT's.
