Default oil temp dipstick

I have the HD oil temp dipstick on my 07 Ultra and have a question.

Is the temp shown on the dipstick a good representation of the oil temp in the engine. If there is a difference what would you think it would be. It is a neat little tool since for some reason HD thinks that it didn't need one from the factory and put a totally useless air temp gauge in the dash. Thank for your input.

I have one also and really like it. I check it frequently and it appears to be very accurate.

Yep... Got one on my '01 RKC & my '07 RG and my son has one on his '05 RKS - fun to see the differance in oil temp from bike to bike when we stop after a 100 miles or so...

Just keep some spare batteries on hand.

Seems everytime it gets cold, the battery needs changing.

Otherwise it works well.

I tested the dipstick in my 07 and it is quite accurate.
If you want the air temp guage to be accurate move the sensor out of the fairing. Pretty easy to do.

Just got one for my bike. I haven't used it enough yet to tell if its accurate and reliable.
Figured I go that rout and leave my highly accurate air temp gauge in the fairing[sm=laughat.gif]

I like mine also, but I think you get the most accurate reading when you shut the bike off & wait about 1 minute.

Excuse my ignorance. Just curious how you know the temperature reading is accurate.

Good question. I have an 07 FLHRS and is still breaking in, and some say these 07's run hot. The highest reading on a 80 degree day in mild traffic, shut down at a gas station was 236, nomal ride on a 55 degree day & shut down at home reads around 215. Lowest has been 197 on a cold day, 236 highest on a hot day, and as I think 230 degrees would not be an unusual average, soI conclude that the gauge is "accurate".

Hope this makes sense.
