Many aftermarket systems are advertised to flow at great volumes. What they don't say is that almost no stock (or nearly stock) system will ever get close to needing flows offered by those aftermarket systems. There's a huge difference between what the aftermarket air cleaner system will flow as opposed to what you motor can flow even at its max rate.
Very much that!

Buy the fancy RSD or whatever floats your boat for looks or doing more that a stg1 set up...like a bigger cam for example.

I rode through the rainy storms we had here all of last week and I was glad I kept the sock cover. I run the FM billet stg1 so I was able to use the stock cover. Main difference between that stock air cleaner and the FM air cleaner it that the FM is taller...a little bit bigger. It's all my motor will ever need and the bike runs HARD!

Fuel Moto Made a site where you can look at several Dyno Charts they made comparing different combinations of headers slipons and air cleaners. More than 1 Stage 1 set up got over 90 hp.

I don't know anything about Wetheads chart but if you'll look at Fuel Moto's 103HO (Rushmore) twin Cam Models you'll see a few results similar to what he claims. Look at the top row third one in : Jackpot 2/1/2 with JP 4" SO and FM Pro AC 93.69 hp 110.43 tq.

Yea i seen that one. stage 1 intake(his only filter) jackpot headpipe(his stock) and slips with tuner and his has higher numbers with more stock parts. I think his dyno was a little high on numbers I could seen 86-90 hp and 99-108 ft lbs. I know the 103 ho with stage 1 will put out power just think his was a little high.

If ya could get 100% Volumetric Efficiency at 6000 rpm out of a 103 ya would only need 180cfm. The stock Rushmore filter flows more.

Glad I read this thread. Just about to pull the trigger on a Stage I air box. What I have done so far, installed a Fullsac DX header and new slip ons (RC Components). Won't the ecm adjust for these changes? Or do I still need a tuner to optimize this set up? Can you get a map that will match this set up (less upgrading the air flow)?

It has been shown many times that a stock motor can be improved with a tune. I t has been shown that the ECM can compensate. This has been shown on the pre Rushmore motors. you will not know if a tune will improve unless you do one.
