1st major ride...Run For The Wall
My wife and I are leaving Thursday for our 1st major ride on our new 07 Ultra. The best I can figure it we’ll put about 5800+ miles on it traveling from Georgia to California and back to Washington DC then back to Georgia. We’ll be hooking up with the Run For The Wall group in Ontario, California for the ride back to DC. Are there any others here planning on making the ride from Ontario to DC?

Its called Rolling Thunder. I'm planning on going, meet at local Harley Dealer and have a police escort to the Pentagon. Of course I only live about 35 miles from DC and not quite doing the trip you are. Kind of wild seeing & hearing all the bikes in the nations capitol.

It's an awesome time in the Capital and a wonderful way to tell the vets that we care and appreciate their service. Not like a traditional rally with beer and ***** but very respectful and very meaningful. By all means, go by one of the dealerships on Saturday and visit Thunder Alley. Attend the candlelight vigil at the wall. Most of all, take some snacks and drinks to the Pentagon parking lot on Sunday for the ride. Limited shade there and no food. Course, last year we took shelter under an underpass and somebody had two pizzas delivered there. It was really kewl.
Enjoy the ride

Athough lots of bikers support the wall and all who's names are there, most of the names on the wall were not riders. For them it's not about the ride, it's about what they gave for our country. To make the connection between riding and what they did is not correct. If you ride a bike there to pay respect, great, but many show up not on a bike and have just as much respect to pay. Don't think for a monemt that your bike has any connection what so ever for what they did.

Run for the Wall is NOT Rolling Thunder! TFTW is the longest and largest pack ride in the USA and is a 10 day, well organized and disciplined ride. (I have been associated with them for 10 years).
They ride side by side and very tight! If you are uncomfortable riding that way, let one of the road guards know and they can position you elsewhere in the pack.
They stop at a number of VA hospitals and Memorials and overnight in small towns where the entire town turns out for their arrival (honestly!)
They fuel as a pack, sisde by side, round up to the nearest dollar and move! Carry lots of singles!!! There will be no change and no time for dallying....have your cap open, take the hose, gas and go!
You really have to have faith and trust in the leaders there...they ave a mission...to get 600 or so bikes across the USA safely. Sometimes it looks dangerous...sometimes it is, but they control every bit they can to make it safe.

Once you make this run, nothing else compares!

RE: 1st major ride...Run For The Wall
By no mean was I trying to disrespect the reason for the RFTW ride. My wife and I hooked up with the Southern Route in Meridian, MS last year and decided after we had completed the ride it DC that this year we had to go all the way…it was a very moving experience. My reason for this post is to see if there were others that post here on the forum that would also be riding. As previously mention this is a very serious and respectful event.
