You can fly into Knoxville, Tn. (McGhee Tyson Airport). It is 6 miles from Smoky Mountain Harley Davidson. The northern start point of the Tail of the Dragon is 24 mile south on Highway 129 from Smokey Mountain Harley Davidson.

There are 100rds of places to stay in the area. Cabins are avaiable from a number of rental agencies in the area. Just Google log cabin rentals in Gatlinburg, TN. Just ask for a cabin that is on a paved road so you will not have to travel on gravel on your rented motorcycle. Here are a couple of places I have used in the past.

Never been there before but it looked like a good spot with a good variety of lodging

Be careful of large trucks, etc. This is what happened to us back in 2001 on Deal's Gap. Got bit by the dragon!

dont forget the fontana dam area...actually some of the roads getting to the dam from asheville are better riding than the dragon, just not as many curves in a row, but better scenery. Maggy Valley is definately worth stopping and if you get to asheville, you have to go to the Biltmore house...the wife will drool over it. Hey , i even liked it. From asheville to the dragon adn back is a full days ride with stops. Definately worth the adventure.
