Default OEM handgrips... Help!

I'm working on a friend's '97 Road King and need a replacement set of OEM grips... Are the factory grips for both the left hand and the throttle (w/two cables) the same across most years? Do the OEM grips interchange with most Harley's during the 90's/00's?

Thanks!

Have you tried going to the HD website and checking what grips fit what years?
That may be an option, unless someone chimes in.

In short - yes, grips are usually one of two types - throttle by wire or electronic throttle
You'll see here that the ones you are looking for are throttle by wire & fit a lot of different year/models with a 1" bar

Throttle by wire (or fly by wire) and electronic, are in fact the same thing. Older bikes (like the one you're working on OP) use cables. There are 2 cables that control throttle. I believe touring models 07 and older all used the cable control. 96-07 "should" fit. Double check against the HD website, Ronnie's parts finder, or the grip manufacturer.

Any grips that fit the cable operated throttle will work.
You can get the original rubber units that have to be glued or you can get the later ones that lock into notches in the brake and clutch lever housings and need no glue.

Thanks guys! I've replaced a number of handgrips in the past, and there are several affordable replacement OEM grips on ebay for the '97 with dual throttle cables. I just wanted to make sure there were no major differences (if any) from '96 to '07 or so before they went to fly-by-wire.
