Default Fiber something out of mufflers

I pulled the baffles out of the kerker original slip ons I have to get a measurement of them. When I reinstalled and started the bike up a whole ton of what looks like fiber glass hair blew out the left side pipe. I immediately pulled both baffles out again and shone a lite inside. The ride side pipe had virtually none of this stuff in it and the left side had lots. Obviously I disturbed what ever this stuff is but why none in the right side? I can only assume since the left side pipe has the cross over it doesn't have the pressure of the right and the stuff in there blew out along time ago. Sounds louder now too. I was considering cutting down the baffles at one point but wanted to get a length and just buy shorter. Sounds different and a tad louder but did I mess something up as far as the tune.

Fiberglass.

Usually wrapped around the baffle.

Sounds like it was stuck to the can, and when you shoved the baffle back in, pushed it up pipe.

No idea why there wasn't any in the right side, there should have been.

Over time the sound deadening materiel deteriorates.
If your exhaust head pipes are stock then the right side will always have more exhaust moving through it, this is why the right side has no materiel left.

Switch the guts right to left.

Nothing is wrong.

So should I find some fiber glass and wrap the baffle? What holds it on as it will just unravel wont it? Also will it harm the bike if it is off?

Won't harm the bike if it is gone.

A lot of times, plain masking tape is used to hold it in place while you install it, other times, stainless mesh or wire.

You can buy it...

It is easy to repack them, as Safety man said use plain old masking tape to hold it in place, it burns right off.

Look at some videos of install, easy as pie.

If it wont hurt the bike, what is its function? Sound? Does it have any impact on the tunning of the bike if its there or not? Just trying to understand if it was there originally and now its not and if the bike was tuned when new and its gone now...will it cause issues with the tuning? Do I have to retune? Sorry to sound lame but I'm an old iron head and shovelhead guy. Most of the exhaust I ever worked with didn't have anything in them and in some cases not even baffles.

with out the muffler packing, exhaust gasses will slow, eddy and possibly reverse direction.

which is bad for performance.

the 1.75" exhaust tract suddenly becomes a 3" ( or whatever) exhaust tract.

the packing is used to control sound, mostly the high end noise is absorbed.

a speed shop will sell muffler packing, "fiberglass" or home insulation won;t do. supertrapp also sells packing ( I use supertrapps, so that's what I use- and masking tape can be used to hold the wrap to the baffle

keep in mind that anything you put in the exhaust tract may be drawn back up into the motor as the wave pulses move from front to back and rebound within the tract

The use of masking tape when re-installing the fiberglass matting is highly recommended ... Using wire or steel mesh can/will create hot spots that can leave marks on the mufflers
