HD Premium Air Horn - Instructions need editing?
I put on my HD Premium Air Horn today and I am so glad I checked the forums. The instructions are for 96 & Later Touring (specific bracket) and claim to involve wire splicing, runningsupplied wiring in mounting kit, and partial tank removal. But what I found after reading some posts is that only pertains to the older years (not sure where the year split is). I simply unplugged the old horn and plugged the same j-connectors into the air horn and bingo I'm up and running. Mounted it and I'm done.Spent 2 hours doing it, with 1.5 hours trying to get the nerve up to do the partial tank removal. Just looked like a pain in the service manual.
Anybody else do the same or am I totally off base and asking for some type of future wiring problem. I have installed about a dozen HD accessories and the instructuionshave always been right on the money. This one wasn't even close for my 2007. Has anyone seen instructions that are this far off?
Next is the Premium Oil Cooler. I hope the instructions are bit more accurate.

Same thing with an HD horn cover I just installed. Instructions show unplugging the horn and pulling the wires completely out then running the wires again after installing the horn in the new cover. I just took the horn out of the stock cover and put it in the new one without ever messing with the wires. Seems like sometimes they make the instructions harder than they need to be.

Monstermile ...
I think serverpimp is talking about something different than you posted.
He is talking about the HD AIR HORN and NOT a horn cover.
Serverpimp .... I think you MAY have a problem. The wiring you get with
the AIR HORN is a RELAY which helps with the extra current need to use
the air horn. From what I have read here and other forums is that you
should NOT run the amout of current need for the air horn thru the
handlebar horn switch.

Yup, you're gonna need that relay, or a good supply of fuses. The wiring that comes with the horn includes the relay. The splicing need is because the stock wire is too short for 1 connector. You don't need to remove the tank, you can route the wires under it to the battery. All air horns MUST be wired directly to the battery prior to the switch.

Personally I think the HD air horn sounds like CRAP !
Kinda like a fog horn. The wiring part is SIMPLE.
The Wife and I have the Mini Beast air horns on our
touring bikesand they are much better.
She made me take off the HD air horn off her SG
and since she didn't want to waste the $$$ paid
for it she asked me to put it on her Super Glide.
I'll try to remember to do a short video for you all
tonight with a sample of BOTH horns blasting separatly....
